The Gateless Gate is the ambient music project of a singer-songwriter from Canada, who founded it to explore his interests in ambient, psychedelic and experimental music. The Gateless Gate's music is created as improvisational composition. The genesis of each piece is a spontaneous idea which is then developed through further intuitive improvisation. The project's title is that of the classic book of Zen koans, Mumonkan (The Gateless Gate), used to this day in Soto and Rinzai Zen instruction. The Gateless Gate's debut is a blend of Krautrock and ambient music influences with music inspired by the history and culture of Central Asia. It is intended to evoke the timelessness and beauty of this remote region of the Earth.
